Sunrise can be spectacular from the Desolation Canyon Trail.
Green rock along the trail. This indicates that chlorite or nontronite minerals (mostly forms of iron) are mixed in with the other rocks.
Rocks move downhill leaving tracks behind them. This is reminiscent of the racetrack in the northern part of the park.
The end of the trail climbs steeply out of the canyon to the ridge line above. The views make it worth it though. Made up of loose sand and gravel, its makes for easy ascension.
Looking down the canyon you just climbed, views of Furnace Creek and Death Valley come into view.
Some scrambling is required on the trail, as you can see by the 6 foot dryfall on the right that has to be climbed in order to continue on the trail.
