While it's a nice downhill on the way to Andrews Bald, it's an uphill climb back to the top of the trail at Clingmans Dome Parking Lot. Thanks to the work of the Friends of the Smokies, rocks have been put in places as steps to help with this climb.

The trail can be narrow and rocky in places.
Although obscured by trees, there are great views of the Southern Smokies off to the right side of the trail.
In areas that were susceptible to mud and erosion, the Friends of the Smokies helped install elevated boardwalks in sections of the trail to help preserve the area and make traveling along this trail a little easier.
