Echo Cliffs and Balanced Rock [Suggest Edits]

Description

Echo Cliffs is a premier running and rock climbing spot in the Santa Monica Mountains. The cliffs along Carlisle Canyon are made of a red volcanic rock and act as a soundboard for all visitors. It's easy to hear climbers on the north side discussing their planned accent from the Mishe Mokwa Trail at the top of the south side. Similarly, the red hue is extra brilliant during the golden hours.

At the top of the cliffs along the trail is a diverse forest and on the south sits a precarious boulder that has managed to survive balanced on a stand through the ages, Balanced Rock. Access to the cliffs has been restricted at times because of erosion concerns and people endangering rare plants, so check with the park prior to planning your climbing trip.

Short Run: Balanced Rock can be seen half a mile in on the Mishe Mokwa Trail or reached 1.5 miles on the trail via the Balanced Rock Spur Trail.
