Want to try your hand at some high-grade seaside rock climbing? Otter Cliff is the perfect spot. Rising 60 feet from the crashing waves, this granite face has a handful of routes with some fixed protection. Not a climber? Not to worry, as this stretch of coastline provides some of the most breathtaking views out over the mouth of Frenchman Bay.

Watch the climbers navigate the cracks and holds, keeping an eye on the water beyond for passing pods of whales spouting in the distance. This peninsula of land can be a respite from the crowds, even with easy, year-round access using the Park Loop Road.

From Otter Cliff, take the Ocean Path all the way to Sand Beach, passing Thunder Hole, along the east-facing coast of Mount Desert Island. Visiting three of the park's gems in under two miles is a must for any visitor to Acadia National Park.

On the Road: Access to Otter Cliff can be found using the Park Loop Road to the Otter Cliff Parking Area. Additionally, the free Island Explorer Shuttle makes a stop here every half hour on the #3 Route between June 23 and August 31.
