Description

Just off US-101 south of Cannon Beach is a sea stack known as "Lion Rock", the remains of a point that once extended out into the ocean. To explore further, the rock may often be walked around at low tide along with exploring nearby tide pools.

It is possible to walk south about 1 mile to Hug Point (point can only be rounded at low tide). At low tide, Humbug Point and Silver Point may be rounded to access Haystack Rock, about 2.5 miles to the north.

Short Walk: Follow the slightly eroded path and steps from the parking / viewing area about 0.03 miles down to the beach. From here, it is a short walk down to the sea stack aptly named "Lion Rock".

Some Mud - Beautiful trail. Way better than expected given proximity to houses. Missed the turn after the metal bridge. Saw the "no fireworks" but didn't look at the arrow on the other side. but we enjoyed our route. watch step crossing waterways near the slews. first crossing had a makeshift bridge / board off to the side that could have been placed for crossing. we just gingerly stepped on logs and other debris.
