Leaving Siberian Pass and Golden Trout Creek, the trail heads up several switchbacks to get to higher ground. You soon pass along several meadows, two on your right, then two larger ones on your left, that are fed by seasonal Barigan Stringer and surrounded by pine covered ridges. The elevation gain eases a bit but the trail continues to climb until almost the very end. Cross Little Whitney to Big Whitney Meadow Trail at 2.3 miles. Round a rocky outcrop and continue north paralleling Barigan Stringer. Cross the creek at 3.2 miles, then follow the switchbacks up to a small meadow and lake which can be dry late in summer. Run past the lake, the head up another set of switchbacks which lead you to a small meadow on your left. Reach the top of the ridge at about 5 miles. The rocky crest is now straight ahead and the Rocky Basin Lakes are just below. The trail ends somewhere between the two upper lakes.
