Packed gravel.

Description

This is a packed gravel/sand/dirt road designed for heavy trucks from LA-MSID to work around the perimeter of the marsh. There isn't much shade. Bring binoculars and a spotting scope to look at the pot pourri of birds. No mosquitos when I was there in March.

Flora & Fauna

The endangered (due to habitat loss) snail kite is currently found more reliably where Sunshine Blvd crosses the Able Canal. They have evolved larger beaks over the last 10 years to eat the invasive Apple Snail. Sandhill cranes are used to people and can't be bothered to get off the trail. Limpkins, vultures, and boat tailed grackles are omnipresent.

Sandhill crane doesn't care much that I'm there.

Hawks always seem to be so angry at me. Seen through telescope, but later, he let me walk by without flying away.
