Runner Notes

Singletrack trail. Watch for loose rocks and small tree stumps. This trail is constantly under development and there are occasionally new trail areas that are not well broken in. Watch the last field section for crayfish holes. There are multiple mountain bike features on this trail, but there are side routes to allow you to go around these features if desired.

Description

Start off close to the gate to the park area. There is a small trail access area indicated by blue blazes on the trees. From there, you'll go through an area of pines and into a field area, back into The Pines region. After this section of trail, there is an opening with picnic pavilions and playground equipment. Take a left here and head up the hill near a fence. This will take you into a trail called Roundabout. There are several mountain bike trail features in this section of trail.

Once this section is complete, there is a steep drop and you cross a field region into another area of trail. This section is the largest section of singletrack trail. Continue to follow the blue blazes. If you see any orange blazes, this indicates to utilize caution as there may be a trail feature not suitable for all mountain bikers. There are generally ways around these caution areas. You'll come out onto a well road, which will lead you into a final short section of singletrack trail.

After this is complete, cross the road leading to Buckhannon-Upshur High School. Once across the road, turn right and go through the grass until you see an opening in the trees with a blue blaze. Go through this opening and turn right, going through a mowed area of field. Watch here if on foot, there are many crayfish holes in the ground! This will lead you right back to the start!

Flora & Fauna

Animals: Deer, garter snakes, rabbits, ground hogs, chipmunks, squirrels all kinds of birds. I've heard about black bear sightings, but have personally not seen one! Spring wildflowers and beautiful fall foliage!
