Need to Know

Shalebanks Warden Cabin is used for Parks Canada maintenance and other work. It is one of several backcountry warden cabins that have been around for a century or so--a working precious piece of history. The cabin and out buildings are for maintenance work, and not open to the public.

Description

An unmarked side trail just south of Shalebanks trail camp on the North Boundary Trail, leads to the Shalebanks Warden Cabin. The trail is flat and well maintained as it runs through the thick fir forest. After about 0.4 miles on this spur trail, one rounds a bend to the right, and there across an opening in the forest, is the warden cabin.

A working warden cabin, complete with out buildings, this cabin is situated on a bluff overlooking the Snake Indian River, a lovely setting. From the front of the warden cabin, one can run across the the cabin's grassy "front yard" to a view of the Snake Indian River below, and cliffs on its far side.

Flora & Fauna

Fir forest. Grassy grounds around the cabin. Wildflowers.
