Overview

This was the route for the Genny Tenny '18, a race held to raise money for the Albany Community Trust and their quest to revitalize the Albany General Store. The race climbs up from the Craftsbury Village to the Craftsbury Common, an open plateau that gives views of all of Vermont's Green Mountains. The course then follows along the east of Little and Big Hosmer lakes through forested and rolling dirt road, before descending to Albany over the last two miles of this ten mile (in one direction) trip. The route will be the same (or very similar) for the race's 2019 edition.

Description

The route begins heading north from the Craftsbury General Store and takes a quick right turn onto Creek Road. While the vast majority of this route is on dirt or gravel road, this first few hundred meters before the turn onto Creek Road is paved. At roughly a half mile, the route turns right on forested Kings Farm Road and begins a substantial climb up toward Little and Big Hosmer Lakes.

You'll emerge from the trees at the top of Kings Farm Road and take a left on Dustan Rd. Looking to your right on a clear day you'll have an open view of Little Hosmer Lake and the windmills dotting the Lowell Mountain ridge beyond. Dustan Rd will bring you to the quaint Craftsbury Common and white buildings of Sterling College. You'll take a right at the Common onto North Craftsbury Rd., another paved section.

A slight downhill from North Craftsbury Road will dump you onto dirt Wiley Hill Road. Take an immediate right onto Mill Village Rd. (when in doubt follow the signs to Craftsbury Outdoor Center or COC), which you'll follow for 1.1 miles before reaching a Y. There you'll take a right onto Lost Nation Rd., which you'll follow past the COC over forested, rolling terrain for about 3.5 miles before reaching a T at Page Pond Rd.

Take a left up a short, steep climb on Page Pond Rd before descending down toward Page Pond (which you'll pass on the left). Continue straight through the 4-way intersection beyond Page Pond down Hitchcock Hill, a substantial descent of 364 ft. in 1.3 miles. Take a left on Water Street which will T into VT-14. Take another right and run the short, 0.2 mile climb up to the Albany General Store.
