The shortest route to this trail comes by running about 5.3 miles in from Corey's Road. It is a long run, though not strenuous at all.

Need to Know

There are many rock faces that need to be climbed, like a lot of the Adirondacks--however, one rock face in particular is very tall, very steep, very smooth, and very wet, making it (naturally) very dangerous if you aren't careful.

Description

Starting at the Corey's Road trailhead, take the Blueberry Foot Trail to the Ward Brook Truck Trail (both of which are very flat, easy trails). It is roughly 5.2 miles to the Ward Brook Lean-To, which has an outhouse, unlike Blueberry Lean-To. The herd path is marked by a cairn on the right side of the Ward Brook Truck Trail 0.1 miles past Ward Brook Lean-To.

The bottom part of the trail is a moderate incline that tends to be muddy. The top part is wet even in August and features many difficult rock faces that need to be climbed. As hard as it is to get up, getting down safely is much trickier.

The trail starts to open up with limited views to the north as you continue to climb, so you can tell when you are getting closer to the top even without an altimeter. Just below the summit is a tiered ledge just off the path to the right (west) with a fantastic view of the Seward Range and the Ampersand Range. The true summit (complete with sign) is 0.1 miles farther on. There is another beaten trail from the summit to a restricted view of the Santanoni Range and some of the Eastern High Peaks Zone.

There are no other spur trails that diverge from this herd path, so you need to retrace your steps (carefully) to come down.
