Accessing this tough to follow route will require the use of multiple other trails, FS 4675, and Sugar Creek Gap FS 4665. While those trails are both fairly easy to follow, this route becomes a little more overgrown.

As you approach Rich Mountain, FS 4675, and the associated foot path become harder to follow. The "end" of the road is marked by orange surveyor tape which runs from left to right. You can follow the orange surveyor tape to the right.

Caution: Mark the spot where you leave FS 4675 to follow the orange surveyor tape. You'll need this marking on the return trip.

As you follow the orange surveyor tape, the trail disappears quickly and you'll be bushwhacking up the ridge. Stay on the ridge. We were on the road based on GPS readings and the trail map, but there was no trace of the road to be seen.

We stopped at Rich Knob even though the "road" is supposed to continue.

As you bushwhack back, look for your mark to FS 4675. The orange surveyor tape continues past the road. Miss your mark, like we did, and you'll be back tracking later. Like we did.

Chances are very good that you'll not see another person on the run. This is a good spot for peace and quiet.
