Trail 5 starts and ends at the parking lot near the campground in the Brown County State Park. It connects to Trail 4. This trail can be a loop if combining with with other trails, or it can be out-and-back if you're wanting a short but still rugged run.

About halfway through Trail 5, you'll see a sign that points you one of two directions: to Trail 4 or to continue with 5. We continued and did the loop at the end. This is a great area for those who like seclusion; it was a grown up area that had us feeling like we were deep into the forest. If you're just going down Trail 5, there are about 100 stairs, if you're going down and back up, get ready for 200! That's why this trail is rated Difficult, even though the distance is just about 1 mile.

Depending on the water levels, you'll pass through the creek a few times. Pick up an interpretive brochure as there are numbered stops along the way to learn about the trail and species that inhabit it, including the Yellowwood tree!

Fern, chipmunks, purple wildflowers, and plenty of trees including pawpaws, beech, and yellowwood.
