Description

One of many trails at West Virginia University's Core Arboretum, Strausbaugh Trail descends through hardwood forest along the north boundary of the arboretum. In the winter, enjoy excellent views of the Monongahela River and surrounding environs through the trees. In the spring and summer, leaves in the canopy limit these views, but wildlife and wildflowers abound. This trail can be accessed from the main parking lot off Monongahela Boulevard (if you are running downhill), or from the Cliff Trail or Sheldon Trail (if you are running uphill). Strausbaugh is typically one of the more traveled running paths to climb up or down through the arboretum since it is wider and slightly less steep. Join with other Core Arboretum Trails to make a variety of interesting loops in this urban retreat.

Flora & Fauna

Pay attention to the plaques on trees placed by Earl Core denoting different types of tree species.
