Description
Starting from the Cassia Trailhead, the trail heads into the woods with a few rolling hills and views across several lakes. After about 1.3 miles you'll emerge from the woods; turn left to follow along Atula Road for a short ways, then a right on to Palatka Road for a short distance to get over Sulphur Run. Uphill from Sulphur Run trail splits back off from the dirt road to the east and heads into the woods for a few more rolling hills, before it enters rough woods along Pine Road.
If the going gets too rough here, Pine Road is a nice alternative and only a few feet off the trail. The trail comes out on Sand Road; head left down Sand Road and across the bridge over Black Water Creek. Continue along the road for a bit longer before the trail heads east back into open woods on nice singletrack.
You'll cross Sand Road again, and into a section of recently-timbered land, so you'll be in the open most of the way to the end (Bear Pond Trailhead) of this section of the Florida National Scenic Trail.
