The Wilkinson National Recreation Trail is a 4.2-mile trail that winds its way through Saratoga National Historical Park, providing visitors the opportunity to run through the fields where the Revolutionary War was fought. The best place to park is the visitor center, where you can get a map and brochure that provides details about the landscape and the various information stations that you'll encounter. The trail departs the back of the visitor center and makes its way through the woods and fields of the park. The trail descends into the field below the visitor center where a horse trail crosses the trail.

At a fork in the trail, take the right to cross the tour road and make your way through the British lines near John Freeman's Farm. At Station F, the Liason Trail breaks off to the left allowing you to cut the run short and make your way back to your car. The trail continues straight ahead until it comes to a steep ravine that you need to climb. Crossing the tour road again, the trail begins to make its way back to the visitor center. After crossing the road again at about 3 miles, you encounter the Liason Trail shortcut you passed earlier.

Crossing the road for the final time, the trail comes back to the fork that you encountered earlier. Follow the trail straight ahead back to the visitor center and your vehicle.

The Wilkinson Trail can be enjoyed at various points along the tour road, and sections of it can be used and enjoyed depending on the amount of time you have.

Deer can be seen feeding throughout the park, so you are likely to see some on the trail. Hawks, turkey vultures, and other birds can be seen flying overhead.
