You need 1000CLP per person (as of March 2017) with you to pay the entrance fee to the last section of the trail.

Description

You can run to the trailhead from Futaleufu, or drive to it on a dirt road. To get to the trailhead take road W-915 which is the continuation of Pedro Aguirre Cedra street. The road to the trailhead is a few kilometers long and is pretty easy. While continuing on W-915, after crossing a wooden bridge, you'll see a sign directing to the right to Piedra del Aguila; after a short run, you'll see another sign directing to Piedra del Aguila, again to the right. Then you'll get to another wooden bridge. This is the trailhead.

Cross the bridge and pass through a gate and leave it closed behind you. You'll pass several gates while going on the trail; keep them closed after passing through them. After a short distance, you'll start ascending. A sign will tell you that you are on private property and in order to enter the last section of the trail you'll need to pay 1000CLP fee per person (as of March 2017). So don't forget to bring enough money with you!

Most of the trail is a 4x4 road. It is rather steep all along but not too long. Almost at the top, you'll get to a small ranch surrounded with a fence. At this point, the 4x4 road ends. Enter the ranch through the gate and ask the person who lives there to open the last gate on the trail for you. This last gate is locked. The person will collect the fee and will walk with you to the gate, open it, let you go through and lock it behind you. Don't worry, when you'll get back, he will meet you at the gate again and will open it for you. Don't try to speak English to him, he doesn't understand a word in English.

The trail now turns much narrower and still steep. The trail after the gate is short and well recognizable. Go up to the top and don't forget to pick up your jaw from the ground before you go back. There is also a small bench on the top for you to sit and soak in.

You'll get the notion of what you'll see at the top while running on the trail. Definitely don't skip the last section of the trail. It certainly worth going all the way through to the top.
