The trails in Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie are open year-round from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Description

The Blodgett Marsh Trail begins right where the Prairie Creek Woods Trail leaves the road. Head north to follow a mown-grass trail paralleling the fence until a left turn takes runners onto a road trace leading to a bridge over Prairie Creek.

On the other side of Prairie Creek, a mown path meanders deeper into the prairie giving visitors a glimpse into a tallgrass landscape that once dominated the area. As you near areas of standing water, be on the lookout for birds and wildlife.

The trail eventually splits to form a lollipop loop that brings visitors near the park boundary before returning back to the south and reaching the stretch of trail on which they arrived.

Shade is almost non-existent, so come prepared with plenty of water and sunscreen on warm and sunny days. Long pants and sturdy footwear are recommended.

Flora & Fauna

The restored prairie is home to a host of species of native plants, wildlife, birds, and interesting spiders.
