Runner Notes

Dogs are not allowed on this trail. Be careful to respect the wildlife.

Description

Start at the large parking lot at the end of highway 930 as the paved road turns into a jeep road. Continue on the undulating, pothole pocked road until you reach a fenced area. Go through the sliding steel doors into the Natural Area Reserve. Be advised that dogs are not allowed on this side of the gated area. The area is set aside to protect nesting Albatross which can easily be seen just beside the trail, as well as Shearwaters and monk seals. Do not venture off the trail and cause undue stress to the wildlife. Note that you can skirt the fence but the trail will soon turn into a huge washed out drop and be impassable.

As you reach the point, the trail continues down the west side of the island. Continue through the steel sliding doors and back onto a jeep road. Follow the road until it turns into pavement once again.

Flora & Fauna

Albatross nest along the trail, and visitors can see Sheatwarters, Frigates, and Monk Seals
