Description

This trail does not have a name. To the West of PA Turnpike, this trail is outside of Valley Forge Park and is a paved single path. The transition area under the Turnpike bridge is poorly maintained, muddy, and highly eroded. To the East of the turnpike bridge (NPS Boundary), the trail is approximately 1 vehicle width mowed path through grassy fields. The trail follows Valley Creek across from Lafayette's Quarters.

Just south of the Knox Farm, the trail crosses Valley Creek. This crossing is designed for horses, at low water it is passable by bike, and when flow is low enough, it could probably be done on foot (although there is a foot bridge just a little farther ahead on Knox Trail). Once on the East side of Valley Creek, the trail backtracks a little upstream to an abandoned forge before turning East across a field heading towards the "Airplane Field" (AKA "Archery Field"). This field hosts a model radio controlled airplane club. In 1969, Valley Forge park hosted the first World Archery Championships held outside of Europe. Perhaps this explains the "Archery Field" name.

Flora & Fauna

Look for meadow dwelling critters and wildflowers.
