Description

If you're looking for driving directions, Google maps will take you to the park office which is on the other side of the park. Instead, it's best to head toward Pickett State Park on hwy 154 from Jamestown, and several miles past the 154/297 intersection, turn right (east) onto Divide Rd. Follow the signs for Charit Creek Lodge to the parking area. From the parking area, follow the road on foot for 0.3 miles to the Charit Creek Trailhead.

From there your journey really begins! Descend into the valley past boulders and small rockhouses. The trail is wooded and well-shaded. There is a short ladder/stairs (~10') and a suspension bridge at the bottom. The trail itself is not challenging despite some exposed roots, but the trip back up is strenuous due to elevation change. The Charit Creek area is an intersection of dozens of miles of trails going all over the park, and it also houses the Charit Creek Lodge which is fantastic. It has several bunkhouses, each with a wood-burning stove for heat and 6 bunk beds.

The Lodge has a dining hall, food preparation for breakfast and dinner, bathrooms, and showers, and it serves as a great home base for exploring. From the Charit Creek area, Slave Falls and the Twin Arches are short few-mile outings.
