Depending on how adventurous you are, there are some sketchy trails that are steep, loose, slippery, rooty, and delightful. Most of the trails are well groomed and easy to run, but if you venture on the side tracks, be careful and watch your footing.

I really enjoy running in the Arb for the varied terrain and great hills. There are several options for starting points to this area. I like to start at the Geddes Road entrance on the ridge and work my way up and down the hills, but there are other parking areas and entrances available.

It's satisfying to reach some of the lookout points after a hill climb and enjoy the view for a spell. I can't wait for the fall colors to really climax this October. The river presents a refreshing option for those who want to dip their feet or face.

I rarely take the same route, preferring to meander and explore as I run. There's one good 800 meter climb that I like to work on as a segment, but otherwise one can choose their own adventure at the arboretum.

For plant lovers this area is a treasure trove of interesting trees, prairies, and gardens. The mixed ecosystems attracts quite a few critters, but mostly the bipedal kind.
