Overview
On this trail you pass through the Caseríos (small towns) of Casa Loma, Jocos, and Matarita. This trail follows rural roads and provides you with views in every direction by the time you return back to the Plaza de Armas in Matara.
Need to Know
Parking is permitted in the Plaza de Armas, where the trailhead is located.

This is a great route for trail running. It is recommended to follow the trail counterclockwise for the best experience.

This picturesque route invites you to immerse yourself in the authentic rural heart of the Peruvian Andes, in the area surrounding Matara, Cajamarca. Traditionally known as the "Sweet Land of the Alfajor and Friendship," this area offers a peaceful journey away from the crowds. The trail leads directly through bustling agricultural valleys, small local villages called caseríos, and peaceful high-altitude paths. The route follows steady, moderate inclines along a mix of rural dirt roads and farm trails, making it ideal for hiking, mountain biking, or trail running. Throughout the day, you can enjoy exceptional panoramic views of the valley, pass by small family farms, and watch animals grazing on the hills, all in a peaceful setting with virtually no vehicle traffic.
