Need to Know

The trail has not been maintained in years. It is very faintly visible most of the time and in some places not at all. Good route finding skills and an offline map are recommended. In some areas - both within a mile of Olancha Pass Trail and within a mile of Haiwee Pass Trail - the trail is very heavily overgrown, requiring bushwhacking.

Description

Leaving Olancha Pass, the trail heads southeast further up the sagebrush meadow soon entering patches of pine forest. The views east towards Owens Valley are stunning. Up ahead is Round Mountain, but the trail veers right down a wide sagebrush valley with Summit Creek at the bottom. You can see the South Fork Kern River valley in the distance on your right.

After crossing another saddle, the trail drops into the creek bed of Honeybee Creek and follows it for a while. It is often littered with wildflowers. After a small pine tree patch, it heads up the western side of the valley only to drop back down to the creek and cross it shortly after. The final ascent is up a steep gully before the trail gently drops back down to Haiwee Pass Trail.
