Need to Know
The Heritage Grove trailhead parking lot is small (6-7 cars) and does not have a bathroom. While this is a seldom visited area, the small parking lot can fill on weekends. The main parking area for Sam McDonald park off of Pescadero Creek Road is larger and has a bathroom and other facilities, but would involve a longer hike (~4 mi out-and-back) along the
Heritage Grove Trail to access the grove.
Description
If parking at the Heritage Grove parking lot, trail is accessed by a short walk (0.1 mi) along the
Heritage Grove Connector (which involves a bridged crossing over Alpine Creek).
The Lower
Heritage Grove Trail is a short, flat, and beautiful trail that weaves between giant old growth redwoods in the Heritage Grove. It follows Alpine Creek until the trail ends where an old bridge was washed out.
Flora & Fauna
Old growth coast redwoods, California banana slugs, ferns, black berries, thimble berries, broad-leaf forget-me-nots, pacific trillium, sorrel, and many fungi.
