Description
This is the middle section of the longer Perdido River Trail, which continues to the south and the north of this section. It acts as a decent shuttle for a kayak or canoe trip. You'll have dirt road, fun singletrack, and a bit of wayfinding to enjoy.
This starts at the Blue Lakes Landing site along the Perdido River, and heads north, following the river, to the Staples Landing parking area. This was used as a foot shuttle for a 10-mile kayaking journey down the Perdido. The pairing was fun, but the trail did have its issues.
Starting from the south, the trail is mostly on a dirt road. A couple of times, it dips into the woods and becomes a little trickier as it crosses some small streams/swamps. Even along the road, it is generally pretty run.
At about the halfway point, where the trail crosses 196, it becomes almost exclusively trail. It starts out lovely! Great singletrack, along the river. What's not to love?s And then, it just slowly devolves into an unmaintained and uncleared mess. Someone has been busy blazing, so the route isn't hard to find, but apparently, carrying a can of paint is the extent of their maintenance in this stretch. Once the trail is within a mile or two of Staples, it again becomes well-maintained.
