Runner Notes

This trail makes a nice smooth run starting in Kachina, and you can connect to the loops in Fort Tuthill for a longer route.

Description

The Highlands Trail makes a loop south of Soldier's Trail in Fort Tuthill, but this is the southern extension of the trail that connects to Kachina Village. It starts from the trailhead at the Kachina Wetlands, goes out across the meadow and past one of the ponds, then dives into the woods and rolls through a couple of drainages with short climbs. Social trails branch off here and there, but the main path will take you through a meadow beside some houses and back into the trees to soon reach Highway 89A. There you can cross the road to join the loop portion of Highlands Trail and connect to the rest of the network in Fort Tuthill.
