Description
The Ruta del Flysch is a well-marked path that is officially part of the GR-121 hiking trail. This coastal stretch of 14 kilometers, which can be completed in approximately 4 hours, is a natural gem that offers a unique experience for nature and adventure enthusiasts. It's also an alternate (and highly recommended!) route on one of the early stages of the Camino del Norte.
The route gets its name from the rocky layers that characterize its cliffs. These layers, which alternate between shale and sandstone, are known as flysch. Some of the oldest bedrock layers in the area are thought to be 215 million years old. You'll pass sheep and horses grazing, hills full of vineyards, and a few quiet stretches through the forest. The views of the coast are almost constant, although you'll weave inland and back to the shore a few times.
