Some of the best mountain bike trails in Nebraska can be found 3 miles south of I-80 exit 199 on Brady-Moorefield road. Potter's Pasture consists of close to 100 miles of trails through 1,200 acres of hills and canyons, thick groves of trees, and native grasses that populate the hill country south of North Platte. There are a wide variety of trails from easy open ones that are suitable for riders of any ability, including children, to extremely technical trails best suited for advanced riders. Potter's Pasture is privately owned but free and open to the public. A network of volunteers and riders create and maintain the trails as well as host events and races throughout the year. There are also campgrounds on site and dogs are welcome. For more information about events and trails at Potter's Pasture go to whitetailcyclesport.com An article in Nebraska Life magazine written by North Platte's Ron Snell tells of the history of Potter's Pasture: " Twenty years ago, attorney Steve Potter of North Platte and his friend Scotty enjoyed riding bicycles together in the hills and canyons around Jeffrey Reservoir south of Brady. During those rides, Potter got the idea of looking for land to purchase so they could ride as much as they wanted without having to get permission from other landowners. A former client had some available land, so after a bit of dealing, Potter acquired that piece and a couple more that adjoined it, ending up with 1,200 acres of hills and canyons, thick groves of trees, and native grasses that dance in the wind." Steve Potter passed away on October 24 of 2019, but his legacy lives on at Potter's Pasture. There are two trail heads for Potter's Pasture, Old Camp and New Camp The Old Camp is located south of Brady on Brady-Moorefield road, about a mile past the end of the pavement: Take I-80 to Brady Exit 199. Go South on 56D at 2.7 miles turn right on Brady-Moorefield Rd. At 9.2 miles the pavement ends. At 9.7 miles on the left is the entrance to Old Camp. At 11.0 miles turn left on Jeffery Rd. At 12.7 miles turn right into the campground, the sign says Potters Pasture New Camp. 40.877051, -100.427146.
