The trail begins at the Nature Center in tandem with Trail 2. After a short distance, Trail 1 splits to the left/south and quickly passes Dillard Spring. Continuing through the valley, the trail is a bit eroded and crosses some drainage systems, passes a spur-trail to the Fisherman Campground, then draws close to a protected cove of Patoka Lake. A short spur extends toward the cove for a closer view of the lake. Continuing around the bend, Trail 1 links back up with Trail 2.

Hardwood trees, squirrels, deer, possibly turkeys.
