Description
This trail begins at the parking lot at the top of Goodenough Campground. There is plenty of parking. There are pit toilets and a water spigot. The spigot may or may not be working, depending on campground maintenance.
The trail starts of gradual, only a slight incline. The vegetation is wonderful, and in places it is even encroaching on the trail. This trail does not get a lot of traffic, so there is some overgrowth. There is also, as of 2023, some deadfall on the trail. In some places, it will slow you down as you either bushwhack around it or crawl under or climb over in different places. It isn't terrible, but it will slow you down.
There are also 12 creek crossings. In June 2023 (after a stupendous snow year), many of these were wet crossings. The first four have little log crossings, but the rest do not. I imagine later in the season, the stream will be small enough that you can hop over without a problem. But early in the season, with peak streamflow, you'll have to get wet. The stream won't carry you away or anything. It can reach your shins in some places.
After the first mile and half the trail starts to get steep, and it can be brutal in places. The top of the trail is the pass between Scout Mountain and Old Tom. It is an awesome area.
This trail can be paired with
Bell Marsh Creek Trail or
Mormon Canyon Trail #195 to create an awesome loop.
