Mejan and Tarn Cliffs

This trail (Les Corniches du Méjan et du Tarn) will take you (very) close to the multiple cliffs of the Grands Causses valley. Enjoy some breathtaking views and be ready to spot the 200+ vultures living in the valley.

Parking is free in the village, along the D996 and at the House of the Vultures.

During the summer, drinks and ice creams can be found close to the nearby village, Cassagnes.

Trail running is possible but can be difficult in a few sections.

The route loops around the plateau. Some parts of the route can be tricky / abrupt. The cliffs can be dangerous and are not always secured with a railing, meaning this trail is not suitable for young children. Beware if you also fear heights – although keeping a safe distance from them is possible.

The route uses parts of multiple trails. The loop can be started from multiple locations:
- From the GR 6 starting in Le Rozier
- From the GR 6 along the Tarn river
- From the different climbers' (small) parking lots along the D996
- From the parking lot of the House of the Vultures

Depending on the starting location, this can become a half day or a whole day hiking trip. The loop shown here starts from the House of the Vultures (see old shepherd / hunting trail nearby to access the plateau).

If starting the loop heading South:
- Trail is not well marked but easy to follow until 3.48km
- After that, follow the signs for the Cassagnes village and ignore the other trails at each intersection
- At 5.5km, leave the trail going to Cassagnes on your left and follow the fire access road to the right. It will lead you back to the beginning of the loop

A variety of mountain wildflowers. Circling vultures can be spotted all day long.

Vultures were reintroduced in the 1980s after being gone for nearly a hundred years.
