Childs Glacier Recreation Area is only accessible by boat or plane due to multiple washouts along the Copper River Highway.
Trail is not regularly maintained and can sometimes be overgrown. Extensive brushing was completed in August 2021.
Description
To get to the trailhead, you have to cross the Million Dollar Bridge which provides great views of Childs and Miles Glaciers. Trail weaves through thick alder and crosses a dried out river bed. It ends where Childs Glacier used to be, but the views of the glacier are still impressive. Trail is marked with orange markers and cairns.
Flora & Fauna
Mostly alder forest.
Bears and other wildlife are common.
