Description

The loop starts off next to an information sign. Continue south from the sign and it will direct you left around the loop. It rolls up and down a few feet at a time over the sandy terrain. In the wet season, it can have large puddles even in areas that are not bridged by short boardwalk sections. It quickly passes by the location of the original lighthouse built to show the way to Humboldt Bay. The spot is not signed, except by a small warning sign that it is protected by the Antiquities Act. The sign at the start shows the location on its map, as do a scattering of bricks and large tuft of invasive vegetation.

The area surrounding this trail is Samoa Dunes State Recreation Area and OHVs are allowed over much of the area. They are not allowed on this trail or in the immediate area, which is roped off. There is a sign by the bunker on the far side of the parking area that shows where they may go.
