Not too long ago this road was lined with the litter of prospectors looking for silver. Much of the rusted tin cans of Tin Can Alley have been cleaned up leaving a less spoiled driving, biking, or running experience.
From either Mule Canyon Road
or Sunrise Canyon Road this route is common among off-roaders and while 4WD is recommended it can be transversed by an AWD vehicle with sufficient clearance (I got by with 8.7" just fine) provided conditions are good.
The mix of gravel and packed sand is also great for biking or hiking, again IF conditions are good. If the path is wet or muddy only a 4WD vehicle driven by and experienced driver is recommended.
While there are several turn-off for more difficult driving this road is pretty straight forward. Early on, from the beginning of the road until past the Mule Canyon turn, it's very rocky, up and down travel with blind hills to account for.
Later the problem becomes sand or, after a rain, mud. It is recommended using the Hiking Project app or some other GPS system to avoid getting lost or on a path above your skill level.
