Need to Know

This hike is on John Muir Land Trust property, which does not require a permit. However, to reach this trail you must cross EBMUD land which does require a permit. The EBMUD permit can be obtained online at: ebmud.com/recreation/buy-tr…

Description

While this trail can be done in either direction, it's slightly easier to attempt it in a counter-clockwise direction (as shown on the map). The trail starts by heading north, quickly leaving behind the mostly wooded valley (Rocky Ridge Trail) and begins climbing a grassy hillside until it reaches the northern ridge of the valley.

The ridge provides plenty of nice views of the valley below as well as in the opposite direction towards the town of Moraga. From here the trail continues to slowly make its way back downhill until it eventually meets back up again the Rocky Ridge Trail.
