Need to Know

A permit and bear canister are required for overnight (backpacking) stays in the King Range Wilderness. Permits can be reserved on www.recreation.gov.

Description

Starting at the Saddle Mountain Trailhead, the trail follows old road through forest to the junction with Buck Creek Trail at 0.9 miles. It continues climbing for about a mile before shrinking down to singletrack trail and gaining ridge top views. It climbs through more brush than trees to the top of King Peak and 360 degree views.

Shortly before the peak, it passes the trail for Maple Camp. The peak itself is a spur of a few feet to the side of the trail. There is no water available along the trail. The closest water is at the spring at Maple Camp, which may be dry during a particularly dry summer.
