Wilderness permits are required with daily quotas. The Piute Pass Trail is very popular. Normally a percentage of permits are reserved as walk-in permits, but these are not available in 2020 because of Covid-19.

Need to Know

Everything around Muriel Lake is above the 10,000 foot limit for campfires

Description

Muriel Lake Trail branches from the Piute Pass Trail right at Piute Pass. It contours over to the north side of Muriel Lake with only a little up and down. There are several good campsites scattered around the lake.

From the end of the trail on the west side of Muriel Lake, there is a trail-of-use leading to the lower Goethe Lake.

An off-trail route, which is not-very-difficult, allows you to run from the northwest side of Muriel Lake to the Golden Trout Trail or on to the Puite Trail.
