This section of Highway 40 is closed December 1–June 14.
Need to Know
Restrooms and parking are available at the start of the Elbow Pass/Lake Trail, marked with a sign for "Elbow Pass" on Highway 40.
The trail is quite rocky.
After following Elbow Pass/Lake Trail to the tip of Elbow Lake, cross Elbow River at the bridge and continue along the trail through the meadow. When the trail forks, stay to the right and prepare to keep an eye open for the tricky-to-find turn off to the falls. Other runners may have left markers such as a small inuksuk or an arrow made of rocks.
Proceed slowly and with caution when descending to the falls, as the short path is extremely steep and may be muddy.
Kananaskis is bear country; check for closures beforehand and bring bear spray.
Flora & Fauna
The area is well known for spectacular wildflower blooms. Bighorn sheep roam the slopes and roads, and marmots can be found or heard everywhere.
