Description

Start at a large parking lot on the north side of NM 4, directly across from the turn to Forest Service Road 289. The trail starts gently through open forest. The trail increases in steepness as you near a saddle. Check out the views of Valles Caldera from the saddle. There are large swatches of burned trees standing all throughout this run. After the saddle, the trail goes through some forest and eventually comes to some open areas. There are several false summits. A huge pile of rocks marks the top. Enjoy the 360-degree view. To the east you can see the Santa Fe Mountains, north to Taos, west to Valles Caldera, and south to Bandelier.

Flora & Fauna

Lots of pine trees & dead trees from a recent burn.
