Description

Visitors start their journey heading south from the parking lot, following the paved Buckeye Trail for just under a quarter-mile. At that point, the trail diverges. Follow signs for the Henry Church Rock overlook and veer left. At this point, the trail becomes unpaved for the remainder of the loop. Follow the stone steps downwards towards the river. Near the river bed, there is a small spur trail on the right (i.e., southward) with good river views. The trail continues northward along the river with a few uneven segments towards the namesake Henry Church, Jr., Rock -- just under a tenth of a mile away. The rock itself was carved in 1885 by Henry Church, Jr., who worked in the night to carve an eagle, a serpent, a woman, and more. After the rock, the trail continues northwards and eventually reaches wooden stairs back up to the paved trail and parking area. The upward stairs feature waterfall views in the adjacent river.
