Overview

Grayson Highlands is Virginia's third largest state park and the highest state park in Virginia. The park is best known for beautiful views and wild ponies that live in the highlands. It is also one of the few remaining places in the south where Fraser Fir trees still grow.

Runner Notes

Bring a camera and take some pictures of the amazing views in the Grayson Highlands.

Description

The course runs over Little Pinnacle or Haw Orchard Mountain, elevation 5,089 feet, making it the highest race in Virginia! The trails are beautiful. But don't be fooled, as they are anything but smooth and easy, with some very technical sections. Runners will have a view of Mt. Rogers, the highest point in Virginia.

Other course highlights include:

Cabin Creek Falls - an amazing waterfall.
Wilson Creek Trail - several small falls along BEAUTIFUL Wilson Creek
Wilburn Ridge - an epic scramble through giant boulders with amazing views.
An epic loop in the Hurricane Valley & Hurricane Mountains

Flora & Fauna

Amazing rhododendron tree tunnels, wildflowers, and the famous wild ponies.
