Overview

Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge offers area residents an exciting opportunity to get out for a nice run, view some wildlife, and take in their marshy surroundings. Unfortunately, to make an entire loop around the refuge it would require a +60 mile run, but one can make an out and back along the levee trails to suit any desired length.

Description

Starting from the parking area, follow the L-39 Levee Trail out along the marshy landscape until you find yourself a good turn around point. From there, simply about face and return the way you came to your vehicle.

Flora & Fauna

Alligators are present in the area (be careful), along with a plethora of local and migratory birds.

History & Background

This park has gone through a series of minor tweaks over the years, changing both its name as well as the land parcels under which the preserve protects.
