Overview

This is a fun trail that offers views of the lake and the opportunity for wildlife viewing.

Description

The trail starts off pretty flat as you leave the parking area, but then provides some mild climbing challenges as you go through the some of the valleys.

The trail splits close to the end of what I've mapped, but that section of trail is lost and not maintained. The trail ends at a road that you shouldn't run along, so be prepared to treat the run as an out-and-back.

The area is an oak forest and provides shelter to many species of birds including hawks and owls. I found it to be a very peaceful run.

Flora & Fauna

Deer, raccoons, squirrels, and song birds.

History & Background

This area is at the heart of Cherokee Territory in the Cookson Hills. It is very rugged land and sadly where the Cherokee Tribe was forced from Georgia to run the Trail of Tears and settle in the early 1800's.

one of the steeper areas, this goes into a small valley with a bridge crossing and there's some uneven rocks on the climb out.
