Overview

This run is a challenging climb up to the summit of Mount Bonaparte, followed by a long descent on the 4th Of July Ridge Trail.

Description

The trail is easy to follow, though some sections see less traffic than others. The Bonaparte Lookout section is by far the busiest portion and you may encounter other people (I met lots). I did not see anyone on the rest of the loop.

Lookout Spring and Lightning Spring were dry while Lightning Creek had some water. Other water sources include: Antoine Creek, upper Myers Creek (0.75 miles after the South Side Trail intersection on the Fourth of July Ridge Trail), and several near Roggow Cabin.

Flora & Fauna

Ruffed grouse, hawks, deer and possible coyote (saw very fresh signs but no coyote). There may also be bears, so I have heard. Bear spray may be useful.
