The trail is well marked but is narrow in places with a few muddy areas and a few steep drop-offs to the side. It's a relatively easy and short run and worth the time.
Need to Know
Restrooms are at the beach in the park and at the boat launch area near the bridge end of the trail.
Description
The Hemlock Trail goes through a virgin stand of ancient and awesome hemlock trees. It is accessible from one end at a sharp bend on Buck Run Road, and from the other at the head of the lake next to the bridge. There are signs marking the entrances and the trail is blazed. The loop can be done from either end. There's more parking near the bridge. The lower part of the loop follows the Laurel Hill Creek. The upper part goes past a restored lean-to shelter that was originally built by the CCC.
Laurel Hill was developed by the CCC as a Recreational Demonstration Area and was later deeded to the state as a park. The park office has a nice display on the work of the CCC in the area and a statue that honors the CCC.
Flora & Fauna
