Description

Butterfly Canyon branches off of the Diffendal Loop. What starts as a sandy path gradually changes to rocks and dirt with the path dotted with boulders and trees. The "walls" of the canyon are part of the Brule clay formation and while not excessively high, are too steep to climb. Parts of the trail require larger rocks to climb over or around. The trail ends in a steep face, effectively a dead end. Ferns and liverworts can be found in this area.

Flora & Fauna

Butterflies (seasonal), liverworts, ferns, cedar, lichens.
