A Sno-Park pass is needed Nov 1 to Apr 30, a Discover Pass is needed the rest of the time to park.
Description
This trail starts from the Cloud Cap Road #3512 about a hundred feet from the paved Cooper Spur Road #620. There is a small amount of parking on Cloud Cap Road, an information kiosk, and a wilderness registration box. A lot more parking is available on the Cooper Spur Road. There are occasional blue diamond blazes along this trail.
The trail begins as a wide dirt pathway with limited elevation gain in a dense forest. Some muddy areas have logs across them. You'll come to an intersection with the
Polallie Ridge Trail #643A. After that the trail begins a steady, unrelenting climb on dusty singletrack. After about a mile the trail enters a burn area. You'll start having awesome views of Hood, but won't have any shade again until you get to the Tilly Jane A Frame - bring your sunscreen!
As the trail climbs you'll have excellent views of Mt Adams and decent views of Helens, Rainier, and even the distant Olympics on a clear enough day. The trail ends at the Tilly Jane area, with access to
Tilly Jane Trail #600A, on to the
Timberline Trail #600, and the
Polallie Ridge Trail #643A which you can take down to form a loop.
