The closest restrooms are at the visitor center or at the Kaloko Fishpond. The trail is very exposed, so make sure to have plenty of water, sunscreen, and a hat. The lava rocks are shop, so make sure to wear appropriate footwear.

The Ala Hue Hue Trail traverses the lava field between the Mamalohoa Trail and the Ala Kahakai Trail and access to the pacific ocean. To access the trail, hike the .2 miles from the road that follows Ala Nui Kaloko Trail to the trail junction. The trail is a singletrack trail that moves through the lava field. This area is very exposed, so make sure you have plenty of water, sunscreen, and a hat. The trail goes over the rocky, lava terrain and descends slightly as it approaches the ocean. When you meet up with the Ala Kahakai Trail, you can turn to the right and work your way to the Kaloko Fishpond or turn to the left and follow the sea wall to a sandy beach where you can swim or watch sea turtles feeding in the ocean or resting on the beach.
