Description

We departed our friend Walter's small farm and headed up the Calchaquí Valley. Some of the route follows Argentina's famous Ruta 40 - a dirt and gravel highway at this point. Other parts track next to the Calchaquí River. There are some shortcuts via either the river or road across uneven terrain.

Side trips from here include the spectacular Quebrada de las Flechas National Park, the small village of Payogastilla where peppers are laid out to dry in the sun, all the time viewing Cachi Mountain at the end of the valley.

This feels like an epic western adventure with a Spanish flair.
